Tomato Aunt Ruby’s German Green

A Green/Red, Beefsteak tomato on Regular Leafed Indeterminate plants

Description

Aunt Ruby’s German Cherry is a wonderfully tasty and unique green cherry tomato. Our source of seeds has selected them from the renown Aunt Ruby's German Green which is a green beefsteak weighing in at 1lb or so. Fruits are shaped like small beefsteak tomatoes and have the full-sized sweet tomato flavour.

We grew this for the first time in 2013 and grew it again in 2014 (when they didn’t do as well). They didn’t grow as big as suggested (very few tomatoes do in our experience) but the flavour was excellent. As a tomato, its externally similar to Ananas Noir but the flesh is green rather than multi-coloured. The early flowers were subject to megablooming and the fruit was prone to splitting when picked.

The web suggests that this variety originates in the US with immigrants from Germany and was grown by Ruby Arnold of Greenville Tennessee for many years. However, the seeds we have grown try to suggest that these are a "cherry" variety but (in our opinion) whilst they are a "small beefsteak", they certainly are not a cherry as they grow the same size as many of the smaller beefsteak varieties.
