Tomato – Azoychka

A Yellow Beefsteak of good flavour on Regular Leafed Indeterminate plants.

Description 

Azoychka is a very productive yellow beefsteak tomato growing on strong, regular leafed, indeterminate plants. The plants grow to the top of the polytunnel when we stop them with four trusses. We grew Azoychka from 2012 to 2015. It cropped well in our polytunnel each year with each plant producing 20-30 fruit which weighed between 4 and 14 ounces each. The meaty yellow fruit (which further ripen to a pale orange) has a citrus flavour (not unlike Limmony). Unlike many yellow tomatoes, maintains the acidic "tomatoey" taste without the "mealy" taste and texture that some can suffer from.

Unlike many beefsteak tomatoes, Azoychka has a regular internal structure which means that it has slightly less flesh and more juice than many similar beefsteak tomatoes. It has a long (slightly late) cropping season, from late August to late October (the start depends upon the season and the end is dependant upon the frosts).

The fruit also keep quite well once picked and late green tomatoes do ripen if left in a dark place.

Excellent for slicing and cooking.

Its history (from what I have been able to find on the web) suggests that it is of Russian origin, bred by a hobby gardener (Valentina Petrovna Kruglova) and may also be known as  Zolotoy Borago.
