Tomato Green Velvet

Small Green/Yellow Beefsteak Tomato with green flesh.

Description

Grown for the first time in 2018 with seeds from a seed swap, we were interested to see how this grew. It did quite well with a reasonable flavour and unusual colouring.

A small/medium sized beefsteak shaped tomato which, when ripe, has a yellow/green colour but the flesh is chartreuse green (not like Aunt Rubys German Green which has a hint of red in the flesh). It tastes good, not too rich, but like all green tomatoes, plays havoc with the colour of sauces made with it so its best not cooked.

Being 2018 with an unusual summer, it seemed to ripen quite early (for a beefsteak) and the flavour was sweet/acidic so good for a green tomato. In addition, the skin colouration meant that there wasn't any question as to when the fruit was ripe.

Will I grow it again? I don't know, I'm never convinced by Green tomatoes in general and I think Aunt Ruby just edges this one. (Others may disagree).
