Tomato Peacevine

Small Red Cherry tomato on Indeterminate plants.

Description

Grown for the first time in 2018 with seeds from a seed swap, we were interested to see how this grew.

It cropped well and early. The small (1/2 inch) fruit appeared in quantity on a plant which was almost uncontrollable, ranging quite a distance in the greenhouse. However, whilst the fruit were tasty (sharp), like many small cherry tomatoes, they were extremely seedy and split easily both by overwatering and when picking. It was important to make sure that the stem was broken off at the knee, if the stem did not come off with the fruit, the fruit would split almost regardless of what you tried to do.

In addition, the squashed extremely easily so if any other tomatoes were put on top of them whilst picking, they would split again.

I don't think I would grow them again, life's too short to sort through tomatoes looking for ones that are whole.

Having said that, my two year-old grand daughter liked them and rummaged through the greenhouse looking for them to pick (fortunately she understood not to eat unripe tomatoes).
